Pin It! Hop ~ Too Many Pincushions?

Can a girl ever have too many pincushions??  My answer is NO. Especially when I find myself asking... "Where are the pins!?!"

Here is my latest - a new "Lil' Woolie"

* Felted wool ball
* Bits of wool or roving
* A little glue
* A 1-1/2" button
* A few pins.
and that's it!

More kits and patterns available HERE.

These cute little critters can be made with pre-felted wool balls that come in a package...

...Or by felting your own wool, like the cute little Ladibug above!

To "Felt" your own wool ball:  Roll some yarn or roving (cleaned, carded wool, ready to be spun into yarn but still fluffy) into a tight little ball.  Use a felting needle with a hooked end to "felt" or bind the roving into a tight little ball.  Any color will do.    Note:  Do NOT get your fingers or your lap in the way of the felting needle.  (Don't ask how I know this...)  You can use a foam pad or brush to do the felting on, if you want.

When you get a good, tight ball for the center, add your desired color of roving, felting as before.

It takes awhile to poke all of the fibers together with one little needle, but that's all I had.  Clover makes a felting tool with many needles together.  More effective, I'm sure.  Eventually, the ball becomes tight and smooth.

If you want to shrink the fibers and meld them together even more firmly and securely, slide your wool ball into an old nylon stocking, tie a knot on either side, then throw it into the wash.  The agitation and hot water in the washing machine will continue the felting process.  Dry in the dryer or allow to air dry, and you're ready to embellish.  Felt in pieces of yarn, other wool bits or small sections of roving to finish your masterpiece!

Yeah, I don't think I'll ever have enough pincushions!  Here's my little pile of pretty little pinnies.

Oh, you want to know my favorites?
CHICKENS, of course, thank you for asking! *Ü*

So... my dear husband thinks I have too many pincushions, and that I should give some away.  Do you think so too?  What would you prefer?  A Hen Party Chick?  A Rosebud Wristlet?  A little Owlet?  A Lil' Woolie?  A surprise?  I'll give away a few of these on Saturday after the hop.  Or maybe I'll just make some more.  *Ü*

At any rate, please leave a little note here if you'd like to participate.  Be/become a follower and let me know for a 2nd chance.  And be sure to visit the rest of my pinny sisters today!

Big THANKS to Kristin of Meadowbrook, a terrific cheerleader for this hop who has inspired us with terrific, adorable pincushions each day of the hop! And of course, the illustrious Madame Samm who has gathered some terrific sponsors and prizes for this hop.  See all the details at SewWeQuilt.com.  (By the way, I can't wait for you to see her pinnies!!)

Still, I find pins in the most unlikely places (stuck into my trousers, into the chair I happened to sit in while sewing, in my feet and even in my bed!). I am already a follower of yours. They are so cute and I have loved them since I first saw them, but as a stitcher and sewer you can never really have too many pincushions - after all they keep the pins off the floor and therefore out of the bottom of bare feet!
